Winter Series Results: IRC Day 2

Sailing Secretary • 28 November 2022

"Champagne racing"

The first race of the day was delayed while we waited for the wind to fill in, with the start at 10:51. Thereafter the SSW wind held steady at 6-12Kt and we were able to run four races. The first two used a windward gate, and the second two a Sausage Triangle configuration. Frankie The Rhino winning the first two, and Off Limits then Game of Thrones the latter.

Results are below - the measurements required for Renegade's IRC rating are now complete and so the whole fleet will be valid for Race Day 3 and I will move the results over to HAL then. House of Fun have entered, and a another Beneteau 21 may also be entering - both of their IRC Ratings are already valid.

In the bar after the results I was asked why I set the sausage before the triangle in races 3&4 as apparently triangle sausage is the usual order. This triggered a subsequent debate about whether it should really be triangle sausage rather than the other way around. As with nearly everything yacht racing related this quickly became a controversial topic, and it was necessary to consult the Race Officer's bible (AKA The RYA's Race Management Guide):

Hopefully this settle's the matter 😎

A good turnout on a fine day gave close racing with occasionally challenging conditions for short handed crews. Pura Vida looked ahead on the water but corrected times show a different picture with Seventh Heaven taking Race 2 and the fleet close together for both races. Nevertheless, Pura Vida held on to pip Seventh Heaven to this year's September Cup.
