Winter Series Results: IRC Day 1

Sailing Secretary • 13 November 2022

& we're off! (well, we managed 1 race at least!)

The wind was eerily reminiscent of last year's first day of the Winter Series, which may mean we're in for a battering again later in the season!

Anyway, as ever, the first results are provisional whilst we sort things out for boats still needing IRC ratings (if anyone from IRC Rating reads this, thanks for your patience and support - boats should strictly have thier TCC sorted before the 1st race, but as this is a long series we only post tentative results until everyone's ticketty boo - usually by the second race day, exceptionally by the third). In such a spirit the provisional results are offered above although looking at the timings your Sailing Sec doesn't expect the positions to change and will buy a round if they do.

Thanks to David W and his support crew (Ian, Jan, David Wr, Helen & Peter). The eagle eyed may have noticed that this is the first IRC Championship that we have not enjoyed the talents of Graham B and David M on OD2, and we wish them all the best in their retirement and sincere thanks for their help in every weather over many seasons. There's an open invitation to them to come back for the odd race and if you see the old salts aboard OD2 please hail them and say hello.

Despite rumours a certain VX One hasn't entered yet although her skipper has assured the sailing sec that they will, so don't count them out yet!

Thanks all - remember if you didn't do too well, it's not too long 'til the first discard the participation that counts :-) (for the avoidance of doubt, I had nobody particular in mind when writing this.)

See you all in a fortnight!

A good turnout on a fine day gave close racing with occasionally challenging conditions for short handed crews. Pura Vida looked ahead on the water but corrected times show a different picture with Seventh Heaven taking Race 2 and the fleet close together for both races. Nevertheless, Pura Vida held on to pip Seventh Heaven to this year's September Cup.
