Commodore's Weekend Saturday Race

The Commodore entertained applications for reduced handicaps. The official adjustments were:-

Category Allowance
Inexperienced Helm Start 5 minutes earlier
Junior Crew Start 1 minute for each junior crew (<16) member
Helm/Crew in fancy dress Apply to Commodore (on Volante) – max allowance 5 mins. Commodore’s decision is final!
New Member aboard: Start 1 minute early for every new (in 2021) member aboard.
Handicap appeal: The Commodore will entertain claims that the handicap is rubbish. Max allowance of 5 mins. Claimants will be expected to win or face a forfeit the following day.

A surprising number of allowances were claimed and permitted - although the Sailing Sec notes with interest that the Handicap appeal was not used.

A claim for a verruca was disallowed, perhaps as well because the ailment had healed itself by the end of the race. A claim for a hip replacement was surprisingly awarded although the recipient did not make good his offer of showing the scar for a payment of £1.

A good turnout on a fine day gave close racing with occasionally challenging conditions for short handed crews. Pura Vida looked ahead on the water but corrected times show a different picture with Seventh Heaven taking Race 2 and the fleet close together for both races. Nevertheless, Pura Vida held on to pip Seventh Heaven to this year's September Cup.
