Signature Series A Race 3 (Sat 5th June)
Mea culpa!
What a day! The day began with more wind than forecast from the SE, The forecast was for it to become SW over the afternoon. The course was set in the North Lake with a rabbit start at Mark 11. The RO amended the course to lengthen it because the wind seemed set for the afternoon and therein was the first mistake of the day - and the reason that even the corrected times are all 2 hours+ :-(
We tried out our newly built automated horn system and it worked perfectly, except that not all the boats could hear it and so the RO postponed with 1 min to go and restarted - hence the start time being 13:40 not 13:30.
A healthy field of 8 starters was reduced to five finishers. Race leader Volante was the first to retire after belatedly realised they'd rounded the first mark in the wrong direction - a sad end to their afternoon. Next to fall was Mariska as they managed to wind their spinnaker sheets into their furlex and couldn't fly their jib. And then Ju Ju retired having come together with Slippery When Wet in no wind.
The fleet is getting used to race management being conducted over VHF - all except our resident radio instructor that is!
