Slippery When Wet wins the Paul W Stainton Memorial Trophy

Saturday saw the WCA's return to full race management for Signature Races. Thanks Ian and Paul on Volante for officiating - it's a bit daunting after such a long break due to Covid-19 and they ran two great races. We have retained the idea of dual-purposing signature race days as standalone trophy race days, so today's two signature races also determined the winner of the April Cup - The Paul W Stainton Memorial Trophy.

Below are the full results for each of the two races. Jailbreak continues to improve. Slippery When Wet's performance is consistently good, and Mariska is having a great start to the season! Firefly was shorthanded with just two aboard, and it was Artemis' second ever race.

Jailbreak flew an asymmetric and Artemis her Code Zero bit the rest of the fleet was on white sails.

The rain held off long enough for everyone to get back to their various bases and then set in for the Bank Holiday. Thanks again to Paul and Ian, as well as to all the competitors. The next Signature Race will be officiated by William assisted by Eddie and Peter - the current plan is that they'll use OD2 which Ian, Graham, and Steve modified last year with a frame to facilitate the flags hoists.

A good turnout on a fine day gave close racing with occasionally challenging conditions for short handed crews. Pura Vida looked ahead on the water but corrected times show a different picture with Seventh Heaven taking Race 2 and the fleet close together for both races. Nevertheless, Pura Vida held on to pip Seventh Heaven to this year's September Cup.
