Results: June Cup (Sutton Trophy)

Finbar takes the Sutton Trophy.

This was the first 'Long race' we've held for several years. The 'Round-the-Lake' course started at mark 1 in the North lake and then race around the large speed markers in the North and South ends of the lake. The finish was between the speed marks at the South end of the North lake.

The wind was strong and relatively constant, moving from N/NNE to ENE over the day.

A note on the timings below.

Neptunia reported 4h7m33s.

Finbar reported finishing at 14:33:15

Neptunia recorded her time from when she crossed the start line, but she was late to the start and started just after the rabbit had tacked onto starboard after two minutes. The Sailing Sec has therefore adjusted Neptunia's reported time. by +2m

In Finbar's case, her reported time would have her finishing ahead of Deo confidimus and Neptunia on the water, which was not the case. Most likely the time was misread and the Sailing Sec has adjusted Finbar's finish to 14:43 rather than 14:33.

Finbar would have won the trophy even if this adjustment was harsher, but she did finish ahead of Ju Ju and this time is fair with the observed finishing order.

Ju Ju had to use her engine to transfer a casualty ashore, and then recommenced racing. No adjustment has been made to Ju Ju's reported time.

A good turnout on a fine day gave close racing with occasionally challenging conditions for short handed crews. Pura Vida looked ahead on the water but corrected times show a different picture with Seventh Heaven taking Race 2 and the fleet close together for both races. Nevertheless, Pura Vida held on to pip Seventh Heaven to this year's September Cup.
